Chris Johnson

Partner, Chairman, CEO

Chris joined JA full-time in May of 2004 and has served the firm in many roles, including customer service, large group account management, agency operations, and consulting. In December of 2009, Chris became a partner in the firm, became President in January 2015 and advanced to CEO and Chairman in 2019.

As Partner, Chairman and CEO of JA Benefits, Chris splits his time between consulting and overseeing operations of the firm.  His role as benefit advisor includes consulting on employee benefit programs, wellness and disease management, employee advocacy, consumer driven health plans, pharmacy, and worksite benefits programs.

Chris focuses on the overall management of the firm, new business development, delivery of services, and client satisfaction. He believes in being a strategic partner for every client he serves and looks for ways to share his extensive experience in both fully insured and self-funded medical and ancillary product plan arrangements. His clients value his personal attention, timeliness, and depth of knowledge.

Chris attended Marian College, now Marian University, in Indianapolis, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Business and Economics. He also minored in Management Information Systems. While at Marian College, Chris was a recipient of the National Honors Scholarship awarded for Academic excellence.

In 2008, Chris was selected to participate as one of only ten members of the Marsh Berry Mentoring & Apprenticeship Program for Leading Young Tigers (MAPLYT) designed for young, aspiring, future agency executives, who are driven to have a career in agency leadership. Chris was a college baseball player while at Marian from 2000-2003 until a knee injury.

Chris has been involved with the Eskenazi Health Foundation as a fund-raising Committee Member since 2008. He also actively creates opportunity for JA Benefits to be more involved in the community.

Chris and his wife, Becky, reside in Lawrence County. They have three children named Finley, Fallyn, and Foster. They enjoy spending as much quality time together as possible, as well as participating in a wide range of outdoor activities.

The family’s summers involve weekends on the lake boating; the whole family enjoys wakeboarding, wake surfing, and relaxing on the water. In the winter you can find the Johnson family together on snow skiing trips. They also enjoy hunting trips together, including turkey hunting in the spring and deer hunting in the fall.
