Hilary Kanyi, SHRM-SCP
HR Generalist
Hilary Kanyi started her career as a Marketing Consultant, selling marketing packages and services to authors to help them promote their books. During that time, Hilary found that true enrichment came with the territory of connecting with individuals from across the world among various industry verticals. She cherished this human connection and found herself transitioning into Recruiting and Human Resources. In fact, Hilary strives to build company culture and programs that truly support employees, serving as JA’s current HR Generalist.
Hilary noted: “Results driven professional with a history of proven success throughout Recruiting, Sales, Marketing and Brand Management. I have a passion for process improvement and approaching projects, programs and initiatives with a fresh, innovative approach.”
Hilary earned a Bachelor of Science in Business with a double major in Marketing and International Business, as well as a minor in Sociology, while attending Indiana University Bloomington’s Kelley School of Business. During her time as a student, Hilary noted her efforts in acquiring various instrumental skills, such as flexibility, problem-solving, communication, cultural diversity, and adaptation, especially during a semester abroad at the City University of Hong Kong. Hilary worked vigorously with two part-time jobs, and was actively involved in the Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity, the Christian Student Fellowship, the IU Dance Marathon, and the Tae Kwon Do Club, where she earned her red/black belt.
Hilary leaves an incredible mark on her community, participating as a Leader and Mentor of 4 local teen parents through Parent Life, volunteering for the Lotus World Music and Arts Festival, assisting with Habitat for Humanity Builds for local families, serving as the Team Captain for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s (which led to her team winning the Rookie Fundraising Team Award), and teaching international students English idioms and phrases during weekly meeting organized by BISM.
In her spare time, Hilary devotes her love and enthusiasm for people back into her family, which includes her husband and son. She and her husband are travel enthusiasts, with her husband organizing safaris for individuals and groups in his home country of Kenya. Hilary loves to cook, especially when it involves exploring new enticing recipes and introducing others to them. She is extremely passionate about supporting local businesses, including Bloomington restaurants, and she has a standing goal to try each restaurant in Bloomington at least once. She also frequents the plays at the Cardinal Stage with friends in her down-time.
